She has moved closer to Uni, and a new beginning!

Im so excited for her, but will miss her so much...but my son,Ryan ,couldnt wait, and is already packed up to move in to her room!

Next up...eye candy of the junking kind!

Hello fellow junkers!!

It's been a while, and Im not sure if Ive fully recovered from the holidays, but stepping into the New Year always gives me that sense of the unknown ya know?

Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

I feel I need to go back to my comfort zone of yesterday, and more familiar surroundings....

So Ive been working through the piles of mine and my family's life around the home, sorting, culling, and reminiscing. I guess when another child is leaving the nest in two weeks, it tends to do that to a person....

With one other flying the coop last November, Im starting to ask myself the question...'why are they leaving me?'

It seems it is time. Time for them to grow, explore, and become the best they can be! Well, I already think they are, but who am I to stop them!

My son Ryan is more than happy to stay a bit longer, and is moving out to Cara's room the day she has gone! Her room will become the 'mancave'.

So with all of this happening, I cant help think of the changes it will make to myself , the business, and my priorities in life....So Im surrounding myself with what I know best...distraction!!

Collecting, junking, theyre certainly related, and definitely my close relations!

And well, if you have followed me for a while, you would know I have a collection or two, or 50, but I have discovered that my largest collection to date is the huge volume of photos on my computer, cds, dvds, albums, walls, theyre everywhere!

I havent got the heart to delete or part with them...

Unfortunately, it has come to the crunch , my computer is so full, it is having trouble coping with the masses of folders of photos I need to burn to cds.

I must say, I have improved with my photography immensely over the years, and I think this blog has something to do with it, I have been clicking away for many years, and I think I will be taking my camera to my grave, haha!

So with all that said.....I thought Id put together some favourite photos over the years from my collection.

Well, its official, one week till the big day!

Are you all organised? Mmmm, each year we think we have plenty of time, but Im sure most of us have that last minute rush around!

I added a few more decs around including this little miss given to me last week.

Most of these presents will be packed up and taken with us to visit family on both xmas and boxing day, I love seeing them under the tree!

We cant put Toby's under the tree yet, he seems to know , and well, last year he found it, unwrapped it, and wouldnt give his toy back for anything! It was funny, but in the process, he destroyed a couple of other gifts.

So Im signing off for the year!

With the last week always so hectic at work and home, I may not get a chance to wish you all a Merry Christmas, so best do it now.

I want to thankyou for all of your support and encouragement throughout the year, and hope you will come and visit again next year!

Winding up!!

Im sure most of you are slowly winding up for the year, finishing off projects, orders, and work in general, ready for the Chrissy holidays, I know I am!

I have five days off over the festive season, and hope to spend time with family and friends, and I might even have a nana nap or two!

I had a great day on Saturday, finishing off the sales for the year with a champagne 'POP', so to speak!

Thankyou to all of thelovely customers, regular and new! So pleased for the late-comers, who cleared some space with their furniture purchase!

Well hello fellow junkers...

We are going through some changes here lately, and starting with the middle child flying the coop,literally!

After graduating her flight attendant course, and then landing a job with Qantas, it was time for her to find a place near work. So she now resides in the city, when she isnt flying!

But it doesnt stop there....Our eldest daughter is house hunting down the coast, in preparation for Uni next year!

The girls always seem to do things around the same time, so it is a double whammy!

Hopefully our son will hang around a little longer, I dont think I could take all of them leaving at once...

I guess keeping busy with work has helped, but the emotions are all over the place, and thoughts of the future are hovering.

So, as Christmas and the New Year roll around, it is a time to refocus, rethink, and reflect on the past year. Every year justs comes around that little bit quicker....it seems there are never enough hours, days and weeks to fit everything and everyone in!

After the last sale here in the studio on Saturday, I will be finishing off orders, and slowing down to a walking pace till the New Year.

But for now, full steam ahead!

I'll be back next week to share some pics from the sale, and I feel some specials coming on, in the website, to finish the year out!!!

The apple doesnt fall far....

You know how the saying goes...

I was clearing some junk off my verandah a couple of weeks ago, and found these boxes, which have been moved around so much, and have come with me everywhere I have moved for the past 27years!

What are they, you may well ask...

My father made these out of packing boxes from his workplace back in the 70's. He worked with PMG, better known now as Telstra, one of our phone and internet service providers. He worked with them most of his working life, and as us aussies know, they certainly went through some changes!

It was only natural for him to grab up these boxes before they were destroyed and thrown to landfill, or someones fire. Dad was in the game of reycling and reusing way back then.

He had a plan, and immediately went to work and turned them into speakers for the loungeroom! I remember they hung from a bracket in the corners of the room, and were covered in that gorgeous retro orange fabric!

For many years they did there job, and right up till I was 17 yrs old, many a good beat ran through them. My dad loved the opera, and still does, but back then you could hear it from the top of the street, which wasnt so cool as a teen!

So when he finally replaced them with black modern painted ,cheap chipboard ones from the store,around that time I moved out, and they followed...

The orange fabric went (wished I had a pic to show you), and as I loved cows and cottage fabrics, I found the appropriate coverings. I used them for a few years, mainly as extra speakers outdoors or other rooms , but the sound was pretty bad!

So then they became just a quickfix coffee table or display piece, I just couldnt part with them.

They have sat on my verandah for maybe 8 years now, stacked up on a shelf in the shed, waiting for some inspiration...

One day, I started to pull the fabric off, revealing the old fuzzy speakers, and before I knew it, I had unscrewed the whole box, and that was when my eyes lit up!

The stenciled print on the side told the story.

I never knew where they had come from, or even thought about there age, I just liked the timber, and the fact that dad had made them, and that was it.I couldnt wait to ask dad all about their history.

After a bit of wax, these 50+ yr old boxes are ready for a new purpose in life....but what?

Any suggestions?

As I walk down the road to my workplace, after an almost hour long drive, I cant help but feel I am walking the 'Yellowbrick Road', surrounded by colour and perfume from these beautiful historic gardens.

The homes arent too bad on the eye either!

Shame the Wizard isnt at the end to greet me with my wishes!

The calendar that is!

Ok, so do I need to reintroduce myself, it has been so long!

I could tell you I have been happily creating...

I could tell you I have been so busy with family and home projects...

I could tell you work outside of the home has taken up precious time...

And all would be true, life has been a tad hectic here.

But not a day has gone by without my regular fix, checking out what you have all posted each day.

Along with your inspiration, Spring has been such a perfect backdrop for five minutes of peace and harmony, and a cup of tea....

I have been painting my kitchen/dining/family rooms, and rearranging furniture like there's no tomorrow! Actually annoying the 'bleep' out of my family, drove them crazy,haha! In one week I had moved the fridge and the pantry twice, can you imagine how frustrating it was,back and forth, had me in stitches!

I like to think it keeps them on their toes, but as the ongoing joke in this household goes...'but there's definitely more room now!'

Im preparing for the last sale of the year here in the studio so I will be back with some things I want to share as time permits, and you can also catch me on Facebook!

Short break....

It is a long weekend here, and so much going on...

So along with my RDO at work, I have 4 full days to catchup on some stuff here!

Because I start so many jobs but hardly ever finish them, Im doing alot of finishes , thats if I dont do anymore starts on new projects! Haha, Im hopeless with distraction!

Ive decided to have a short break from blogging too, I need to get things back on track, and christmas will be here before we know it! When and if I have a sale in my studio in December, please check the dates over here.

Hello fellow junk lovers!

Well the sun did shine, and the breeze was warm, and the people came out to play!

After the rush hour from 8-9am, I thought my work was done for the day...the next hour was dead quiet.

Even though I had made quite a few sales, I didnt spend the past few months , in particular the last few weeks, and late hours last night, and up at 5am this morning, to open the studio for just an hour!

But then...

Thankfully,the late-comers arrived, and I had steady sales right up till closing at 1pm.

'Retail' is a fickle business to be in , unpredictable and hard work, with not always satisfying results. I work in a shop five days a week, and we dont know from one day to the next what our sales will be like! Almost classed as a country area, we rely on good weather to draw the customers in, but then sometimes the good weather keeps them outdoors!

We cant win!

The one thing I do know, is that we offer the best customer service we know, so we are certain they will come back!

Just the same as in this lil studio. I can always rely on my regulars to come back, and for the newcomers, I try to make them feel most welcome and a new friend to the studio, and me of course!

It is a tough time for retail, customers are smart, and the competition is huge, even when it comes to garage sales, fetes, markets and the like.

So when all of my customers tell me there is a huge fete in the next suburb,( I might add I was sad I missed it, they are always fantastic), I point out to them how good it is we have choice, and although you might not get quantity in this petite studio of allsorts, you will get quality (junkstyle) and definitely leave with a smile, and maybe a new special or two in hand, and the knowledge that you have made a new friend, or, caught up on some gossip, chit chat and laughs with an old friend.

It is a win win situation for the customer all round!

A wonderful day!

But now I think I need a nanna nap!

What a day!

Spring days are the best!

Day at home, spring-cleaning outside, washing drying in the sun, mowing lawns, and hosing gardens...

I found a random door leaning up against the studio...mmm...

Project no. 21546!

I love it when ideas sneak up on me like that!

I saw another version of it somewhere, so thought Id try it! I think it took all of two hours, easy peasy!

I just need to attach the top, and seal it!

I will be adding it to the studio for the next sale!

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there for tomorrow!

We are bringing my dad home for the day, cant wait to see him at home again, even for one day!

What makes me smile today...an elation!

I knew it would happen one day....

I knew if I waited long enough, was patient enough, and sat back and observed from afar....it would happen...

My son, (the appentice carpenter) came to me last night, after checking out my last display case I had finished.

I was ready for the smart comments he usually makes, like, "What is this for? What are you doing with it, why have you got that junk in it"?

But to my surprise, as I looked over at him checking it out, he turned to me and said, "What are you doing with those rulers, they're heaps mad, and really old...You're not cutting them all up are you? Why did you cut that one , someone who collects them would pay good money!" He proceeded to tell me, a guy he works with occasionally has one which is about 80 years old.

I didnt realize the impact of his questions until I went to bed last night...

I told him the one ruler I did cut (on the roof), had a big split in it, but the others I will keep. I know my dad has one that would be about 80 years old also, I remember playing with it when I was young, I loved it, and used it to make lots of things ,hanging out in the garage all the time with him...fond memories....

Anyway, back to the impact my son made.

His true colours shone last night, the signs have been coming gradually over the years, and although he is in denial still, he is following his mothers footsteps!

He has an appreciation of the old stuff!

He didnt get the 'display thing' , but thats ok, I can accept that, for now!

Getting creative for Spring (and a distraction from the office...)

Ok, I admit it, Im a procrastinator!

It is just the way I roll!

Im not a 'heads on' type of girl...I like to sit on ideas and thoughts for a while till the time is right...

Well, this idea came from my archives, buried deep in my filing system! The basic plans are not my own, but by adding 'my style' and 'pizazz',haha, I have tried to recreate and embellish as I know best!

My original idea was inspired for Spring, making a lovely display of seedlings, ferns, and favourite blooms.

But then they reminded me of my time working in a department store, creating displays in 'museum boxes', in my Visual Merchandising days.

A display 'glasshouse' for your own little treasures to be changed seasonally, daily, till your heart desires.

Im a huge fan of Glass Cloches, and I know alot of you are too, so these are an extension if you like!

Of course, giving them their individual personality was the best part, I couldnt finish them fast enough!

What's more, they can be built in a DAY...well not including mowing the lawn, hanging out three loads of washing, and heaving a large cupboard into a customers' tiny car, and....well you get my point!

And as you know, I dont like to waste, so I gave the backs of the frames to my eldest daughter to give the kids in preschool...Im thinking they would be great for them to make collages! Or better still, I could contact them, add a bulldog clip, and use it to hold recipes, photos, oh dear, my head is spinning with ideas!!!

As you may know through facebook, the date for my next sale has been confirmed for Saturday,17th September. So busy ,busy, busy for the next month! So,my visits will be few and far between, but rest assured, I will be sharing pics of my finished office/craft room if it kills me,hahaha!

I always say,

'If you're going to do a job, do it properly'!

Well,I think I did a brilliant job of covering everything in this office/craft/spare room....dont ya think??

Yeh, it has been a while since Ive been able to do anything in this room, and what's worse, it is in full view when we open the front door...My plan backfired!! I thought by having it close to the front door, I would keep it clean and organised, yeh right!

Ive made so many attempts to empty it out and start fresh, but I stand at the door, then walk away....but this afternoon, my eldest daughter gave me the nudge I needed!

Mind you, these photos are an hour into it, Ive dragged out alot of furniture as you can see, into the hallway and living area.There's actually some good stuff in here, shame you cant see it, I couldnt even close the door, clothes hanging all over it!

Hubby is away thank goodness, but back Monday, so it has to be finished by tomorrow afternoon....hahaha, and here I am blogging about it!

I better get back to it, I guess.....

Along with working fulltime, I decided to clean out the studio, sell on ebay, and have a sale on the website! What was I thinking??

This weekend was exactly what I needed to refuel, reflect and revisit.

Friday night after work, we celebrated our daughter Larissa's 20th birthday, which happens to be today!
We ate Teppanyaki , well some we had thrown on us, but it was fun, and delicious! Saturday she flew up to Queensland for two months, she is training to be a flight attendant.

I worked at the shop all day, drove to Sues that night, we went out to watch a friend's band, and have a few too many drinks!

Yesterday, we went to this special place Sue likes to visit, so peaceful and serene, time almost stood still....we ate a rather large breakfast, then walked around checking out the rather large trees, and gorgeous views.

These trees are the most beautiful Moreton Bay Figs, and very old.

We left before midday, in time for me to head down the coast to Bulli, where I caught up with my parents, sister,her hubby, and daughter. We went to visit dad, who has been in hospital since last October, and now in Rehab.He has been very ill, resulting in the loss of his leg. Slowly he is recovering, and we hope he will be home in a couple of months, it has been a very long road, and a very lonely one, for both my mum and dad being separated for so long. Their dog Daisy is only a year and a half old, so dad hasnt seen her for months.We thought he needed a boost, and took her in to visit....

They say the simplest things can be the best medicine, the pics speak for themselves!

I drove home last night exhausted, but at peace with the world for another week...

Better pull my finger out....

Hi all,

The rain and my work out of the home have been my main excuses for slacking off in the studio cleanup this past week, but no more!!

I managed to have most of the weekend to catchup with all of my jobs, and finally checking out the condition of my trees and haven down the back...

Well, apart from a few rather large branches, piles of wet,soggy leaves, and alot of possom poop, not too bad.

I managed to find the little culprit who leaves these smelly little pellets everywhere...

He doesnt look too worried does he, mmm, I think he felt I had disturbed his sleep! Dont let those gorgeous eyes, and fluffy fur fool you, they are pesky, territorial, and stinky! But cute....

So, now I just need to replace the doors, and build a new awning, yes, $$$$!

Then I can revamp the inside. I always like to freshen it each Spring, let the fresh air in, move old out, new in, and shake it all about! I havent had a sale since May, so Im looking forward to getting back into them, and lets hope the weather is kinder this time!

Back to reality....

Hi all,

Ive been home for just a few days, and cant seem to get it all together, my life that is! Im feeling a bit lost, and still struggling with sleep , germs, and reality!

Vegas

My trip to the US was unbelievable, words can not describe...

Grand Canyon

We went with a group of around 25 people for the first week, and hit the streets of Vegas and LA,and the Grand Canyon, then we separated, our adult kids went home, reluctantly, and hubby and I hired a car, and travelled the coast to San Fransisco.

Our original plans were to work our way over to New York, but we soon realized this country is too big, and with only a few weeks up our sleeve, we'd be better to stay close to the west coast. As disappointed as I am, it means we will have to go again to do the east coast another time!

So with no real set plans, we pulled out a map each night, and sketched out a rough trek...

We met some great people along the way, a few guided us to the most amazing places we wouldnt have stopped at , so we are so grateful!

Overall, we laughed, destressed, and shared some wonderful memories together. I might add, no cooking, no cleaning, and just a bit of washing made the holiday so much more of a holiday!

Whats more, we came home to a reasonably clean home, all intact,lol! Almost three weeks coping on their own, the kids made us proud!

Initially, I had intentions of buying up some great junk along the way! I couldnt wait to rummage through some great thrift shops and hit some garage sales. I knew I had to be strong, and pick just a few specials as I had limited space, but if I should see something spectacular, it would have to come home regardless!

So, we found a few GSales, but nothing,

then we went to some antique stores, but nothing,

I found a great thrift store with a great name, and thought this is the one, but nothing.

Our last night...

Our last few days were spent back in Santa Monica, and we found the garage sale of all sales! In fact I walked straight past, but hubby called ,shocked that I had missed it.When I looked back, I think I started to run....

All I could think was,how am I going to fit these in our luggage, Ill have to organise shipping, I dont care how much it costs, it will be worth it, how will I carry it all, Ill organise a truck....

Well, all those thoughts were short lived....he wasnt selling, he was cleaning out his garage!!

After the embarrassment, we laughed so hard, I realized it wasnt meant to be!

I gave up looking for those special pieces, afterall I was on holidays, and we had some fun looking!

So now weve come back to our winter, the winds have picked up, and my studio is getting somewhat of a beating with branches falling and leaves piling up. I started back at my day job yesterday, so it may take me some time to get back into Junkstudio. Im looking forward to visiting everyone once again, it feels like it has been a lifetime! The junk that got away...

I finally came across some little stalls to fossick through, but nothing that stood out as The.one...

So many were too big, or not cheap enough for this bargain hunter!

I loved this enamel set, and the crates were gorgeous, and only $10 ea...they would be worth at least $65 ea at home!

Cute little places that werent open ,they just teased me!

Oh well, hubby was proud of me, but Im still thinking about the junk that got away....

The road trip has begun, and we have gone from LA to Santa Babara, then drove to Santa Maria, where we are spending our first nite without the group we were with, and the kids have gone home!

The weather is great,though the sunburn is not! I went into my first antique shop today, but came out empty handed. The prices werent to different to home, but some nice things just the same...

I decided when I left, that If I find something to take home, it would have to jump out at me, and have to be extra special! Im sticking to my word, and being very strong!

Im enjoying the surroundings, the cultures, and the entertainment, fashion, landscapes, it is all an experience I am taking in. Ive taken so many photos already, and have a few funny pics to share.

This guy approached us as we arrived in Santa Barbara today.He went through a divorce years ago, and decided to become a professional hippy, asking for just a donation to take photos of his car. What an amazing artwork.

Another piece of artwork was this guy on Venus Beach,LA. Built from car parts!

The last one is a guy on the sidewalk in Venus Beach, they all have something to say...

In my travels...

Hi everyone, well here I am in Las Vegas, and what an experience in a lifetime for me, and the family...

We leave in the morning to LA for a few days before the kids go home, and hubby and I take to the road...then the real fun begins.

We are hiring a car, vintage hopefully, but with the modcons! So we are heading up the coast to San fransisco, and around surrounding places. To my blogging friends here in the US, Im hoping you can tell me a few junking places to visit over the next couple of weeks near these places???

Our road trip idea across to New York was short-lived as it is just too far with only two and a half weeks up our sleeve, so we will stick to the west coast.

Firstly, I have a new email address, please check the sidebar....now just need to retrieve my contacts.What is it with hackers, they need to get a life!

How could I say no to a box full of lampshades waiting to be bedazzled and redesigned? I only needed a few, but by buying the box, they only worked out at $1.20 ea....

I have trouble buying just one or two of anything junk related, oh, and maybe clothes...and shoes...mmm.

Ok, is this how it starts, hoarding that is?

Then it is too late for me, no turning back.Maybe I should have asked this question ten years ago,lol.

As all addicts would say,'I have it under control', but I do...

Today, Im home sick, day off, and Im overwhelmed with this sinking feeling I have. A big quicksand pit is on my verandah, in my house,the laundry, and even in my car, consuming my time and energy and most of all, my space!

Time to brush off the germs, and take control, one room at a time!

I leave for the 'States' in 16 days, lets hope I can find my way out of this mess and get to the airport on time!

My latest obsession (making lamps) has taken over my dining table, so I will finish off the last two, and clear it for dinner tonite...hopefully!

Oh, and the chairs...leave as is, or paint and recover? I cant decide!

Im heading over to the U.S in a month's time...yaaaay!

I guess we should start planning our roadtrip, if hubby and I could just decide on the same places !!

We are spending the first week in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, then who knows! I just know I want to end the trip in New York!

Lets not even mention the junk I want to squeeze into my suitcase...my 'persuation and suttleness' skills will be brought in to play.

I have a decision to make before I can start packing, though Im pretty sure what the answer will be...wanna help?

Easter is rolling in, and for some it will be a race to collect as many eggs on the hunt, I miss those days....

We are spending Easter Sunday with mum, and visiting dad in hospital.

If you have followed me from the beginning of my blog, you would know that I have many collections, and some I dont tell anyone about...but I have stopped buying,(I think), my home is full!

Well there is one that seems to grow, and that is my hat collection...

They are just scattered around my office/craft room carelessly, with no purpose.

I love them, the flowers and colours are devine. They would look better in my bedroom, as they seem to be all blues and creams...

I have at least nine now with the two latest additions here.

Any ideas on how I can display them, so I feel I deserve to have them?

Whilst walking the trail in Glebe, we were admiring the old homes, some completely renovated, and some preserved, in keeping with the age and style and era...

I couldnt help snap this old girl, she has had a little help in preservation, and needing much more, but I love her just the same, simply gorgeous. Notice the lacework around the top, maybe remnants from an open verandah...

I bought a handful of specials, which I will be adding to the studio shortly....

Just got home from a big day out in the city, first stop Glebe...

I had the map and the addresses, but the sales were few and far between. Parking was a problem, and we walked and walked and walked! We only went to a few, and mostly clothes were selling, which my junking partner Jen was happy about!

Im not sure what I was searching for, I was hoping it would jump out at me!

The weather was perfect for the most part of the day, so we jumped back into the car for Surrey Hills. Many more visible sales within walking distance, it was great!

I bought a few things, clothes and a couple of bags, nothing outstanding. I did have a great day with a great friend on a warm Autumn day, so overall it was fun, and I hope to do it again next time this event comes around, I think in August.

It was a wonderful distraction from my 'real' life at the moment, just what I needed.

Do you ever go out junking and come home feeling like you didnt quite get your junkfix?

I didnt even take photos as there wasnt really anything to brag about!!

A weekend shared with long-time and life-time friends...

Time out with the girls is always good medicine, and Saturday was just that! Over 30 women enjoying an underwear party...that lasted ten hours!

Spending time with my parents...

Dad has been in and out of hospital for the past 5 months, many surgeries, so it was good to visit once again, and support mum.

Sue's birthday spent roaming a gorgeous nursery and gardens...

She refused to co-operate with me, so this pic is as good as it gets....birthday girl.

We shared good food, good company, Judy her mum included.

Another job crossed off the very long list ...

Ive been slacking off on the fix and finish chores around the home for so long, I just wanted them to go away! You know how it is when the list gets longer, it becomes overwhelming, but having both the weekend off from work(out of the home) and the miserable weather, it was the perfect time to 'catchup'...

My daughter had a new wardrobe made last year (doors were donated from a friend), and I suggested we paint, wallpaper, something to brighten them up, they were plain white.

Then a couple of months ago, I found these great wall stickers and thought they would be perfect! Cara loves swirls and butterflies, so finally we tackled it yesterday.Once we painted the doors in a washed turquiose colour(cant remember the name), we couldnt wait to get sticking, and were pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to attach!

Cara loves it , and it looks so much better, though I think on a bigger space they may have looked even better!

I think some additional baby butterflies flying up from the right may finish it off....still not quite sure...

Another wet day,and Im having a lazy day, and loving it!!

The other 5,890 jobs on the list will still be there tomorrow...

An unusual piece...

One of the many items I finished last week was this gorgeous cupboard..

I had it in my bedroom for years, unfinished, but full to the brim with clothes, jewellery and the like!

When I changed my room around, I decided it needed to move on, so I had to clean it up!

It is now on ebay.

Thankyou to those who are interested in how the sale went, let me put your mind at rest....I closed after three hours!!!

It was miserable weather, Autumn decided to show up, and I think it scared most of my customers away....

It was great to see a few of my regulars visit first thing, and maybe a dozen or so came in the next hour, but by 11am, it died a quick death!

I had tarps up everywhere, but the wind was cold and damp, I gave in, and packed up! And just to taunt me, the sun came out for the next hour, and people were driving up the lane looking for my little studio, staring at the locked gate...shame...

Well after a night of sulking and disappointment, I decided that I will just have to plan my next sale in April. Check for new dates soon over HERE.

Home alone...

No, I didnt set up traps for robbers, or jump on the bed, or order pizzas....

But I did take in the silence, and enjoy the freedom of doing whatever!

Well, it lasted about 30 minutes, until I couldnt stand Toby's sad face staring through the murky french doors....it didnt take him long to settle in...

I had big plans today, and that was to empty out the studio and freshen things up, in preparation for next Saturday, Sale day! Unfortunately, the weather had other plans, and down came the rain. I started a project during the week, and so I finished it off, and am quite happy with the result.

I pass this creek everyday on my way to work.In fact I have shared a gorgeous pic with you before, this lovely creature in it up to his knees!

But Ive never seen it in its full glory...all that is needed, is a canoe floating amongst the flora!

Im buried in work and junk!

'Operation cleanup' continues at a slow pace, adding one thing at a time to the studio pile!

I also wanted to share with you, a little display my hubby put together at the
Pool, Spa and outdoor living expo in Sydney.
He sells, transports and delivers fibreglass pools around Australia, so expos are a great way to advertise!

As it was his first in Sydney, I thought I should check it out.It was by far the best display, and they were run off their feet all weekend with interest, and he may have sold the display spa pool too!

This video is without the spajets operating...It is the first fibreglass spapool to have a wet edge (where the water runs over the edge).And his mate made a roller to fit neatly under the deck, easily accessible to cover the pool when not in use.
If anyone is interested(in downunder of course), let me know!

I wish!

The heat at the moment is just too much...42deg celcius today, and much the same for the rest of the week!

The aircon is getting a workout between dips in the pool...Yeh Ive got it tough I know!

Since my next sale announcement, the pressure is building, creations in the works, and lots of projects lined up to be painted(when it cools down).

But it also means ,some items I have been hanging onto but meaning to sell, need to move down to the studio, it's time...

So I wont tell you about the blisters on my fingers from sawing branches, or the sunburn I encounted while mowing and cleaning the pool...and then there's the fact we ran out of gas to bbq, so we had to cook inside...I still didnt find time to vacuum or clean the bathroom and, my clutch went in my car!
No, they didnt make me smile, so I wont mention those things at all!

City Festivities...

With the holidays continuing for some lucky people, we have the 'Festival of Sydney', and the summer weather to go along with it!

Living in the mountains means we rarely go into Sydney, but we had a very good reason this time, and that was to see the "Jersey Boys"at the Theatre Royal.

It is a 'must see' show about Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.

We made a weekend of it,

So today we got out in the sunshine and just watched the Harbour and all the activity around!

I love the Rocks, and Sydney Harbour,this is what Australia is all about!

It is Australia Day this Wednesday, make the most of it, and enjoy!

And spare a thought for the flood victims,and share some of that Aussie spirit...

Living in a disposable world...

This purging is against everything I stand for!

For one...Why throw out something that just needs clamping and regluing, sanding and painting?

For two...Why throw out something that can be used for parts for something else?

And for three....Im a ~~hoarder~~ collector not a thrower!

One very big positive has come out of this though, I am getting my verandah back,yay!

No, sadly this photo was from a few years ago, Im not quite there yet...

**Im keeping busy and away from the news, I cant watch it anymore... I tear up with sadness and cant believe the destruction Queensland has and is going through, while at the same time in Victoria, they are going though similar circumstances.
Our country suffered with drought for so long, and now the floods.
This year will be remembered not only for the floods, but for the aussies flocking together as they do, helping and supporting anyone in need, and rebuilding their lives and homes.
If you can, just give a little...

The norm...

'The norm' of day to day is near, I can feel it in my bones!!

I cant wait to get back to that place of creating , painting , restoring , and sharing....with you!

No new years resolutions here, but I have made a mental note to take each day as it comes with a grain of salt, lighten up , de-stress and simplify!

I am currently giving the website a much needed cleanup, removing and adding items, and less links...hopefully it will be up and running in the next few weeks.

Whilst on the subject of business and all things junky, I havent decided when the studio doors will open again for the sales, but when I do you will be the first to know!

In the mean time, I continue to draw inspiration and creativity from so many of you, and look forward to 'The norm' returning very soon!

For the past 6 years, she has had no recollection of her life, us, and her existence...

She is living in limbo, waiting for the next stage of her life or afterlife to come.

Visiting and seeing her, puts alot of things in my life in perspective.

She is my inspiration, my reason for change and simplicity.

I took many photos that day, I wanted to encapsulate every thought, every emotion, and expression she has had over her ninety years young!

Although she did not know us, she was happy for us to hold her hand, sing , and occasionally she spoke a few kind words.

Although she couldnt hear us,nan was watching and seemed content.I think she could feel the love, and felt safe with us.

Im so pleased I saw her again, and I treasure those moments, as they maybe the last.

Hi everyone, it has been an interesting and busy year for us here, so with just the last few things to tie up with the studio and home , its celebration time!

The 'bedroom makeover' has come to a standstill, and will resume in January. Heres a few pics of some changes Ive made, but still alot to finish.

Christmas is our busiest time working in retail, so Im a bit behind with the shopping, ummm, I havent started yet!

The kids helped put the xmas tree up,and it has already been knocked over, and half a dozen mercury glass decs broke! So now it looks a bit bare and uneven!

I put a few decs around the home, but Im really not feeling chrismassy at the moment....

Next year is a new year with new ideas, new inspiration, new challenges and new hope and dreams.

I would really like to wish everyone a merry christmas, and a spectacular 2011.

That's what I tend to do when I get an idea in my head...

Another early start this morning, 4.30am!!

What the?

I woke with a headache, and then I remembered why....

....Warning, long story ahead....

Yesterday, was my day off from my outside job, and hubby had just left to go to Perth,so, although I had a short list of to-do's, and a couple of people to see, (not to mention the daily grime..washing,cleaning and more washing!),I was hoping to surrender to the wet and cool weather, and pull up a book or movie for a couple of hours in the afternoon, ahhh, sounds good doesnt it?

Yeh, I was dreamin!!

But then I had a light bulb moment!

Since hubby's out of here temporarily, I could get the three tins of paint out of the boot of the car (been there for two weeks), and start on my bedroom....who cares if it's raining, it will be dry by the time he gets back, and wella, a surprise!

Honestly, I dont do these things to surprise him, he never notices anyway!

So I got dressed in my ~~paint~~ casual clothes ,dropped everything I had planned, including the two hour rest, and went to town!!

I painted four walls(with the exception of the wardrobe and french doors,and ensuite door), and a cupboard, the cupboard being the one I moved six pieces of furniture to get to my bedroom!

All of which took three coats, just enough paint!

I finished at 9pm last nite, exhausted and covered in paint on my new paint clothes to add to the huge pile of already splattered clothes!

I did manage to cook dinner and put on a couple of loads of washing between coats...

I waited till 11pm,showered and fed,crawled into bed,and asleep before I hit the pillow. The smell was almost gone, or I was just use to it, but I left the french doors open for ventilation......

Hence the headache this morning!

Because all of you fabulous bloggers are loving sneekpeeks, here's some to feast your eyes on!

Still so much to do, but Im loving the colours.

I'll be feeling a bit 'Time' deprived from now, as alot of you can relate, because ~~apparently~~ there are only three weeks till Christmas!

To 'the weatherman',
I know we have just come out of a drought, and I shouldnt complain, but enough with the rain already!!
We are over it we are not happy, and homes are being abandoned...

Home abandoned, too wet...

But what a great backdrop for this spiders web...its been raining jacaranda flowers here, they are everywhere!

As pretty as they are, they are slippery and quite messy.

Well painting is out of the question at the moment, but it is great furniture moving weather...do I really need an excuse??

My family just shake their heads and mutter, 'here she goes again'...

In order to move a cupboard I was needing in my bedroom, I had to move 6 other things, so , as they say, a change is as good as a holiday!

Ive been up since 4am this morning due to my creative side of the brain, 'need. paper. and. pen. quick!!

So the day has dragged on a bit too long for my liking, especially since I have been eager to announce the winner of my giveaway!!

We have had so much rain the past few months, it is nice to know we are no longer in drought...

And now with the warmer weather, my garden is thriving, including the weeds!!

The Jacaranda trees are in flower, they even make the lawn look pretty!

I didnt realize how dry the ground had become until I looked in an old folder of photos...what a difference!

We just lost a dear friend....This huge gumtree across the lane had to go!

If you remember a while ago it snapped in two, missing me by an inch , and for many months it has been shedding branches on our cars, our roof, and soon to be us!

Oh I love it when a truck pulls up out the front, and beeps its horn, and yells out,"Delivery"!!!

It can only mean one thing...Vinnies is here with some goodies!

I pounced on these a couple of weeks ago, and since I dont have a ute anymore, they were happy to deliver them to me.

Like with my home decorating, I visualized(daydreamed), these painted with a contrasting colour inside, or maybe wallpapered??

I just know they will get the redo treatment, and look a whole lot better than they are now! I have done a few of these desks, and they are a great seller.

This ,on the other hand, I would keep, if I had the room, oh, maybe it can squeeze into my bedroom with everything else,lol!

Do-er or daydreamer?

Im unfortunately one of those daydreamers...I can daydream for weeks on end!

Im such 'the creator',' the decorator', and 'the stylist'.....in my head!

I have such vision for my home, I have imagined each room to be harmonious, lovely, and an extension of ourselves. From the window treatments to the flooring, and everything in between, complete and comfortable living.

WHO AM I KIDDING!!!

In reality, I have projects started in every room, never enough time, never enough money, and never enough stamina to see them through till the end!

My latest home project is the main bedroom, hubby's and my domain, or 'the dumping ground'!

Whatever doesnt fit around the house, usually ends up here!

To start...

I bought some photo frames a while ago, and have started making some curtains, and buying some paint, and moving furniture around, and that is it, a standstill!

So this is my last resort, sharing it with you may give me the motivation needed!

Exposing myself...

I was tagged a while ago by Irene @ Re-vintaged but it was at a busy time, and I think I was subconciously avoiding it...

But then I thought, 'how bad could it be?' Im a pretty open person, nothing to hide really....

So now it is time to expose myself, so to speak!

What is one thing you can not stand?

Spiders, yes, definitely spiders, and pretty much all of the creepy variety!

If you could go back to your childhood, what cartoon or tv show would be your favourite?

Oh there were so many...My father would only watch abc, so before he would get home from work, i would watch bewitched and I dream of Jeannie, but I grew to love all of the English comedies on abc too!

And lets not forget the bugs bunny cartoons, oh and Humphrey and play school, of course when I was much younger!

What is something you do or have done that would surprise alot of people?

I struggled with this question and had to ask my son..He said ,'something I would do to surprise everyone, was if I got a skip bin and threw all of my junk in it!!

Im not sure, I guess I believe in something, but I dont think it is ghosts.

When you go to the store, whats the one thing you cant stop yourself buying more of?

Well, it depends what store we are talking about...food, chocolate is my downfall, clothes, any, and home decor, always.

My biggest challenge would have to be all of my junk jaunts, I can never leave empty-handed, buying a piece of furniture, shelving or a chair!

Whats the funniest story you have on you significant other?

This question I asked my daughter to answer...About 5 years ago, hubby was cooking something on the stove and forgot about it. On a whim, he decided to take the kids out to buy a new tv! He came back a couple of hours later, set it up and started watching it. A neighbour came down with photos to show him, and a story!

A lady walking past saw the smoke, got in the house and threw the saucepan outside, and someone else called the fire brigade! Three fire trucks, ten firemen, and a huge exhaust fan, and half an hour later, it was all over! Thankfully, no fire!

Hubby and children had no idea this went on until they saw the photos!

When I arrived home from work and they told me, I couldnt believe they didnt smell the smoke, but I was more embarrassed the firemen saw my messy bedroom!

What is your proudest moment of being a parent?

This is a tough one, so lets see...

I,we have three children/adults, and between them, they have given us many proud moments.

We are very lucky, and for me personally, I would have to say when my youngest finished school, and started his apprenticeship, I felt very proud of us as parents! Our children made it through the school system in one piece,lol, and are now all working in their chosen careers!

I think we did a pretty good job!

If you could go back and relive one day of your life, what would it be?

I cant narrow it down to one day, but a moment of my life would have to be just after we were married, twenty three years ago, we bought a bus, did it up and went travelling for a few months.We planned on going around Australia for a long time, but huh, I fell pregnant! We always said we'd get back to it later, much later! It was the best time in our lives, but a bit short lived! Hubby travels alot with work, so he has seen alot of Australia already, but now our family has almost grown, it might be time to think about another trip again...for both of us!

Since selling our bus , it has crossed our paths twice! These are the latest photos we found, Im not sure where, and it has had another makeover again, but still looks like home! Maybe it is an omen....
