What makes me smile today...an elation!

I knew it would happen one day....
I knew if I waited long enough, was patient enough, and sat back and observed from afar....it would happen...

My son, (the appentice carpenter) came to me last night, after checking out my last display case I had finished.

I was ready for the smart comments he usually makes, like, "What is this for? What are you doing with it, why have you got that junk in it"?
But to my surprise, as I looked over at him checking it out, he turned to me and said, "What are you doing with those rulers, they're heaps mad, and really old...You're not cutting them all up are you? Why did you cut that one , someone who collects them would pay good money!" He proceeded to tell me, a guy he works with occasionally has one which is about 80 years old.

I didnt realize the impact of his questions until I went to bed last night...

I told him the one ruler I did cut (on the roof), had a big split in it, but the others I will keep. I know my dad has one that would be about 80 years old also, I remember playing with it when I was young, I loved it, and used it to make lots of things ,hanging out in the garage all the time with him...fond memories....

Anyway, back to the impact my son made.
His true colours shone last night, the signs have been coming gradually over the years, and although he is in denial still, he is following his mothers footsteps!
He has an appreciation of the old stuff!
He didnt get the 'display thing' , but thats ok, I can accept that, for now!

Pre Christmas confessions!

I usually confess to things Im not proud of prior to the New Year. It helps to celebrate with a fresh and guilt-free approach, and hopefully surrounds me in good karma!

It doesnt seem that long ago, when I moved my office into here and here. But over time, it has filled up (surprised?) and I have a hard time putting things away sometimes, so now it has gotten to the point where I can hardly walk in!

My son would like a bigger bed for his birthday(end of Jan), but his room is too small to fit his desk, shelves, bst, and the bed. So after much thought, I suggested we swap rooms, as my office has a bigger wardrobe, and the room is longer. Hmmm, I couldnt believe what was coming out of my mouth, cause then I realised Id be moving my office into a smaller room!

Logic raised its eyebrows...it will keep me more organised, I will have to put things away, and the room can also be seen from the loungeroom (big incentive to keep it tidy when we have guests).
So guess what Im doing for the month of January??
Please dont look at these pictures too closely, Im ashamed it got to this point!
So stay tuned in the New Year, as I share the photos of my new ,organised space, and my sons room!
Speaking of my son Ryan, he has officially finished school, and moving on to Tafe to start an apprenticeship in Carpentry in February. He has been wanting to do this for a few years now, and with his skills I have shared with you, I think you'd agree, he will succeed!

'Photos from his formal'

As happy as I am for him, I cant help feel the home nest is looking a bit empty, family time is slipping away....
After 3 children, 17years of school books, reports, school meetings, uniforms, bags, lunches etc etc, those days are over.
Next year I will have all three children (young adults) in tafe, so things are changing, some adjustments to be made!
2010,Two thousand and ten, twenty ten, 'Ten, however you like to say it, will be experiencing some new beginnings here,in the home, and also in Junkstudio.

I cant finish this post without sending out well wishes to my dad, who after 12 months ago, was diagnosed with bowel cancer, is waiting on results from the hospital, for the 'all clear'.
Also to dear friends of mine who are sitting by his dad's bed in his last hours.
And to a new friend and neighbour, who will be attending their dad's funeral today, so sad.
Please give a big hug to all the dads out there.....

I look forward to sharing more with all of you, whether you like it or not , but for now Im signing off for a while to take in some of that Christmas spirit youve all been talking about!

Be safe, and enjoy all it has to offer, keep warm, or cool, where ever you are in the world.

Blending....take 2!!

My son had been feasting on mulberries off the tree out on the lane, and decided to have an afternoon siesta! It was a hot day, but he didnt mind, and curled up under the quilt and drifted off !

Toby wandered in, panting and gasping for some cool air.

I think he had the same idea about the afternoon snooze, though any time of the day is good!

'Mmmm, this lounge is kind of lumpy, but cool, oh and the pillows are so soft.......!'

Ahhh, I love my boys!
Remember this post? It must have something to do with the quilt, lol!

Im busy doing this and that, and hoping for some good news at the end of the week, so please cross your fingers and toes, till then, have a good week!

A carpenter in the making...

Firstly, I just want to thank everyone who commented on my last post, I was quite surprised and humbled. Some things I redo, aren't everyones cup of tea, and I get that.
My son is looking forward to leaving school at the end of this year, and starting an apprenticeship in carpentry.
He has done a few major works at school in woodwork through the year, a special one he gave me was a jewellery box.
He is a boy/man of few words sometimes, and at 15, you learn to accept it as the norm!
Yesterday, he asked if I could pick him up from school, as he had something to bring home. He said,"You better bring dad's car, it wont fit in yours."
I really didnt give it a second thought until he called at 3.30pm, asking if Im coming! Whoops, I had gone to the movies with a friend, and although we were just getting ready to go home, my 'phone alarm' didnt go off to remind me(see,I told you I need reminding!).
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I finally get to the school, to find him sitting all alone....with this!
It was such a surprise, I had no idea he was making it! When I asked him why he didnt tell me sooner, he replied," well, you dont tell me everything!"
What a wonderful surprise!
It is made of Tasmanian oak, and he has done a wonderful job, and his mark was 90%!
I found the perfect spot to show it off, and it fits perfectly.
His  next project is a timber toolbox with drawers, but from the plan he showed me, it looks too nice for tools!

He just doesnt know it yet....

He hates my junk!

He whinges and whines about my junk! He says he is soooo sick of it everywhere he looks! He threatens to throw it out when Im not home! He denies any suggestions that he will one day, love junking just like me!

So why does he find such wonderful junk, and leave them on the verandah for me to find?
Oh yeh, my son is a 'closet' junker, and he just doesnt know it yet.....
